Barbados Community College (BCC) has so far impressed in the Southern Zone of the ongoing National Sports Council Secondary Schools Basketball competition. Yesterday, they made good use of home court advantage yesterday with a 90-19 victory over Deighton Griffith Secondary.

Definitely one of the strongest contenders in schools’ basketball, the BCC team sent a strong message with a dominant display that saw them lead 28-4, 50-9 and 67-10 in the first three quarters and further increased their chances of advancing into the knockout stage.

BCC who have a quality coaching team led by the experienced Adrian Craigwell and Jason Smith were unstoppable as five players scored double digits. Those five players were Jadon Clarke with a top score of 13 points inclusive of a three-point shot in the fourth quarter, along with a contribution of 12 from Michael Walkes, while the other three Enrique Holder-Fields, Scott Wharton and Jacobi Alleyne all accounted for ten points each.

The lads from BCC got off to a strong start scoring 28 points which was their highest quarter score of the game. It was a real struggle for Deighton Griffith as they came up short both on offence and defence. Their highest points tally was nine in the fourth stanza and while they could hardly score, they found it equally difficult stopping BCC from finding the basket. Deighton Griffith’s only hope was Ojai Wharton who scored 12 of their 19 points.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, BCC trounced The Lodge School 58-21, leading 14-8, 28-10 and 41-19 in the first three quarters.

For BCC, Antoine Winter scored 15 points, Michael Walkes had 13 and Scott Wharton tallied 11. Nathan King was the lone stand-out for Lodge scoring ten points. morissalindsay@barbadostoday.bb
