Speaking Out #SpeakingOut – Identity crisis? by Barbados Today 29/12/2022 written by Barbados Today Updated by Stefon Jordan 29/12/2022 2 min read A+A- Reset Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappThreadsBlueskyEmail 464 Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed by the author(s) do not represent the official position of Barbados TODAY. In days of old when men were bold and women were not invented men lived in idyllic comfort, but as the Rev Harold St C. Tudor told us during one of his classes (Mathematics, not Scripture) when God created man He rested but, since He created woman neither man nor He has rested. This is a position which I can well understand because nothing raises the ire of a woman like the sight of a man relaxing at his leisure with a beverage in his hand, a smile on his face enjoying the wonders of God’s creation. Some women get an apoplectic seizure at that sight. When asked by his wife what he was doing, one rather brave gentleman responded that he was doing nothing. His wife retorted, “But you were doing that since yesterday!” Quick as a flash, our intrepid gentleman quipped, “I have not finished it yet.” His quick wit enabled him to escape damnation on that occasion. I relate the above because in recent (and not so recent) times the question whether God is male or female has been raised. Traditionally, we have referred to God as a male figure and thus it has been recorded in the Holy Scriptures. The question, however, persists and there are several people who are adamant that God is a female figure. On December 18, 1972, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that 1975 would be International Women’s Year and further declared that from 1976 to 1985 would be the United Nations Decade for Women. This added fuel to the glowing embers, which soon became a roaring flame. You Might Be Interested In Enlightened rastafari Twistory again! Time is running out What I find significant in all this conjecture is that whilst the gender of God is often called into question, no such discussions or doubts are raised when it comes to Satan. This figure has always been referred to as ‘he’ with no questions asked. It has always been taken as given. This is where I part company with the general perception. I posit that Satan is a woman and if this assertion is considered dispassionately, I am sure that I will find tremendous support for it. Consider the first two paragraphs of this script and women’s abhorrence of men seemingly at ease and their insistence that these men should find something to do and then juxtapose it to one of our mother’s (each and every one of us) favourite warnings: “Satan finds work for idle hands!” Is this not proof positive that Satan is a woman?!
