A 45-year-old tow truck operator is Barbados’ latest road fatality after being killed in a freak accident on Saturday.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was struck by a vehicle in Newbury, St George, around 10:30 am and died on the spot.
According to reports, the man was loading a vehicle onto the back of the tow truck when a motor car struck him, pinning him onto the back of the truck.
Police public relations officer Inspector Rodney Inniss said the circumstances, which led to the man’s death, remain unclear.
He said the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor.
“We received a report of a road traffic collision between the driver of a motor car and a motor truck. This occurred on Newbury Road, St George.
“We visited the scene and on arrival we can verify that a wrecker truck was involved along with a motor vehicle. The driver of the motor truck was indeed the operator at the time and he was not driving the truck. It was parked and for some reason there was a collision between the driver of the motor car and the operator of the truck,” Inniss said.
He said police were in the process of carrying out investigations and informing all family members.
Inniss said the deceased would be identified after that process was completed.
He is the second road fatality of 2023. (RB)
