Strong earthquake recorded in French island of Guadeloupe

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad  – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 rocked several islands in the Caribbean on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St Augustine campus of the University of the West Indies (IUWI) said that the quake, which occurred at 7.23 a.m. (local time) was located 53 kilometres (km) west of Pointe-a-Pitre in the French island of Guadeloupe.
