Barbados’ track and field princess Layla Haynes is now officially a Florida Gator.
The 17-year-old has gained a part-scholarship with one of the top track and field institutions in the United States.
The middle-distance runner and former Harrison College and elite distance star athlete will attend the University of Florida after completing studies at the IMG Academy.
Haynes, who won two medals – silver and bronze in the Under-20 girls 800 and 1500 metre events respectively at last year’s CARIFTA Games in Kingston, Jamaica, announced the news on her social media last night.
” I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Florida. To my family, friends and all my coaches both at IMG and home, thank you for always pushing me towards my goals and helping me get to this point. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity,” she said.
