The 17-year-old won the hearts of both spectators and players alike on Saturday night with a clinical display of attacking tennis to dispatch the highly rated Julian โJu Juโ Collymore and advance to the round of 16 in the Hope for the Ghetto road tennis competition. Playing on the London Bourne Towers hard court, Holder who had โdouble sowedโ his two previous opponents, was taken to the distance but prevailed over the experienced Collymore 21-19, 19-21, 21-19, in the nightcap. On a night when almost all of the attackers struggled on the slow surface, Holder, the nephew of womenโs champion Kim Holder, rose to the occasion to delight the appreciative crowd with an array of delightful strokes. Collymore was at his defensive best, as he returned shot after shot from his much younger opponent. In fact, Collymore, who was favoured to win the contest, looked to be on course for victory after a dubious call in the third and decisive set gave him an 18-15 lead. However, Holder kept his composure to battle back and claim victory. Fellow teenager Azarie Clarke also booked his spot in the next round with a 21-18, 23-21, win over Stephen Payne, while primary school champion Kenoja Belgrave dismissed Brian Rollock 21-9, 21-11, to advance. Newcomer Seth Best was also in fine form as he dispatched Randy Bennett with a sow, 21-7, 21-18, while Lloyd โDick Manโ Burke was pushed to the distance by Dale Glasgow before winning 21-17, 13-21, 21-18. In Sundayโs games, Anderson โSt Georgeโ Sealy was surprisingly sent packing by Jaden Mayers who won 23-21. 18-21. 21-13, while Raheem Nurse dispatched Dereck โBullyโ John 21-11, 21-9. In other games Ahijah Blunt won 18-21, 21-19, 21-6 over Wayne Harewood, Ashton Blackett defeated Suave Clarke 21-15, 21-18, Dwaine Hope was a 21-15, 21-17 winner over Sherwin Bourne, Jason โPipeyโ Parris ousted Simon Bayne 21-8, 22-20 and Deryck Clarke beat Hefe Archer 21-17, 10-21, 21-17.
