Physical Education (PE) were crowned champions of the Barbados Community College (BCC) Inter-Divisional Track and Field Championships which were held today on the school’s ground.
PE finished with 210 points, well clear of second place Liberal Arts with 85 points. Third was Natural Science with 71 points, while Health Science finished with 21 points in fourth place.
Victrix ludorum Serena Jackman (PE) led the way for the winners, finishing first in the 100 metres and 400 metres, while placing second in the 200 metres and high jump.
It was the female division that contributed the most points and carried PE to the overall title.
With a whopping 146 points, PE’s females where untouchable as they occupied the top three and sometimes four positions in the field events leading up to the final day.
A distant second in the female division was Liberal Arts with 31 points, while Health Science was third on 12 points and Natural Science who only tallied two points brought up the rear.
It was a different story in the male division with a battle down to the wire for the supremacy between Natural Science and PE.
In the end it was Natural Science who held on to win the division with 69 points, while PE had to settle for second with 64 points. Liberal Arts finished third on 54 points and Health Science was fourth with 9 points.
The victor ludorum Akil McGeary came from Liberal Arts and he won the javelin and was second in the shot put and third in the high jump. He also collected points from the 3000 metres and discus.
The 100 metres sprints were the most popular of the day with the men having five timed final Hea ts and the women three.
The strongest division was decided well after the sun had dipped below the horizon and it was Natural Science who pulled away to win the Open Tug-o-war competition.
In what was their first sports day since the Covid-19 pandemic, BCC also joined with the Barbados Olympic Association, who was represented by the Director of the National Olympic Academy Vaniesha Cadogan, in signaling their support of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace by raising symbolic white cards.
