The financial institution said the financial investment for the co-branded clothing would also ensure that lifeguards are equipped for their roles with improved skills and updated knowledge to international standards. Secretary of the Board of Directors of the island’s largest credit union, Hasani Evelyn, said the institution’s donation would also facilitate the installation of co-branded warning signs on lifeguard towers at guarded beaches to help raise awareness about water safety. He said the installation of the signs is a crucial aspect of the partnership, as it will help to reinforce the message of safety to all beachgoers. Speaking at the launch of the BPWCCUL and the National Conservation Commission (NCC) Barbados Lifeguard Service partnership, at Browne’s Beach, on Bay Street on Friday, Evelyn said the signs are to be placed at lifeguard stations located at Accra Beach Christ Church, Needham’s Point and Brandon’s St Michael, the Crane St Philip, Folkestone, St James and Bathsheba, St Joseph. “As the largest local indigenous financial institution, we also acknowledge the importance of financial literacy among these men and women who serve our country, which is why we will be providing financial literacy sessions for Barbados Lifeguard Service staff to ensure that they are not only equipped with tools to excel in their duties but also to assist them to manage their finances and plan for their future.
