Romario Harewood netted a hat-trick as Weymouth Wales thrashed basement boys Silver Sands 6-2 to maintain their perfect record in the BFA Premier League and register a ninth consecutive victory on Thursday night at the Wildey Turf.
Harewood, a former Barbados senior national midfielder, scored from the penalty spot with three minutes on the clock, before striking again in the 12th and 40th minutes to complete a first-half hat-trick.
Wales’ head coach Carlos Jackman made three noticeable changes to the line-up as he opted to rest center-half pair of Mario Williams and Akeem Hill along with striker Shaquille Stewart.
Nevertheless, Wales were leading 4-1 at the half-time break as the young exciting Nadre Butcher came to the party with a trademark goal when the ball was played over to the left flank and he evaded his marker, cut into the box and finished supremely in the bottom right corner past Silver Sands’ goalkeeper Aquile Barrow.
However, Silver Sands who were looking for consecutive wins after defeating Wotton FC last week, had a glimmer of hope when Anthony Bourne put the finishing touches on an excellent team goal, which including swift passing and brilliant counter attacking to beat Wales custodian Kishmar Primus.
Wales substitute Arantees Lawrence put his name on the scoresheet five minutes after the interval with a neat finish to give the men from Carrington Village a handsome 5-1 advantage.
Ric-Kobi Lewis scored for Silver Sands in the 65th minute to reduce the deficit to 5-2 as Primus conceded his sixth goal of the season and Silver Sands became the first club to score twice in 90 minutes against Wales since the BFA Premier League started in January.
Janash Jaunai then added the sixth goal for Wales when he beat the offside trap and tucked away through the legs of Barrow in yet another convincing win, ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated first leg encounter with Paradise in the BFA Champions Cup at Dover.
“For me, I started a bit slow to get into the game. I finally got on the ball and found a rhythm and then I got a goal, but for me personally I would like to score every match,” Jaunai said in a post-match press conference.
Meanwhile, Jackman said he was happy for the three points and urged his team to continue improving.
“We are always happy to get the win and credit to Silver Sands for pushing us all the way despite the scoreline. My team performed good but we could have performed better. It is always good to win and get the three points,” he said.
In the first encounter of the night, Brittons Hill came from a goal down to beat Deacons FC 2-1.
After Shaquon Haynes gave Deacons the lead in the 24th minute, Brittons Hill missed a perfect opportunity to equalize when captain Romario Small was saved from the penalty spot.
However, strikes from Corey Hoyte and Rommell Bynoe in the 63rd and 75th minutes respectively ensured Brittons Hill emerged victorious.
