Each family will receive a $100 voucher tenable at Jordans Supermarket, which is partnering with the BSG on this initiative. The $4000 to assist families, and another $2000 by a private entity, were donated on the advice of Consul General of Barbados at New York, Mackie Holder, in an effort to benefit “the most needy of the needy.” The sum from the BSG is part of the dissemination of profit from the Barbados Gala 2023, the production of which the group partnered with the Consulate. The gala, a massive and very expensive undertaking, is not for profit event and any surplus assists causes in Barbados and elsewhere. So far, from the gala funds, the BSG has contributed two parent chairs and care buddies for the Paediatric Ward of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, (QEH), and supported charities in New York. Founding member of the BSG, Earl Phillips, retired Secretary Treasurer of the Transport Workers Union, (TWU), who has relocated to Barbados, is coordinating the distribution of the vouchers. The list of families is now being compiled in conjunction with various community heads. Some vouchers will be distributed through the National Assistance Board, (NAB).
