With glitzy attire, bedazzled eye wear, colourful piano and musical dexterity to match, tribute performer Elton Rohn transported patrons of the Rockin’ Hard event to another era. Joined by his full band, the ensemble managed to fully capture the essence of the flamboyant music icon Sir Elton John.
Staged at the Barbados Yacht Club this past Thursday night, the entertaining show was for one night only. The large audience did not miss out on the opportunity to see firsthand the high calibre act who has travelled the globe extensively with this show.
The package featured many of the legendary entertainers’ chart-topping hits. From the outset, audience appreciation was evident as they greeted him with screams. Elton Rohn opened the session with the much-loved Your Song and the musical journey encompassed massive hits including Rocket Man, I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. His appearance was broken down into two sets and in between segments, the party goers were entertained by DJ Dusty.
The musicianship was exceptional, and the attendees’ energy was high. Even those who were not in the courtyard area where the stage was stationed could be seen throughout the compound dancing energetically to the strains of music. They sang along lyric for lyric and even when the event ended they still wanted more. The entertainer obliged and wrapped up his dynamic session around 11.30 p.m. with Elderberry Wine.
Earlier in the night, veteran calypsonian RPB got the audience amped up for the headline act. During his performance, he quickly exited the stage and joined the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed being up-close with the entertainer. The audience followed his every instruction, and whether it was waving their arms in the air or whining and going down low, they were eager participants. His segment included favourites like I’m Alive, Something’s Happening, Boat Ride and the always well-received Ragga Ragga. The emcee for the night was Samud Ali. (STT)
