Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 607 The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) says it will be trying to get to the bottom of environmental issues at the Warrens Office Complex that have kept Government employees out of the building. NUPW president Kimberley Agard confirmed that staff from several departments have been forced to leave their offices. “For the last couple of days, the workers at the Warrens Office Complex have been off the job because of environmental issues,” she told Barbados TODAY, explaining that the Customs and Excise Department, Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations, Ministry of Energy and Business, and Ministry of Economic Affairs were among those affected. “The union had promised to start investigations and to approach the property manager and the owner of the building to get any matters rectified.” Agard said the union last week did a routine walk-through, which is “a practice that we are engaging in to meet our members where they are”, and were informed of the environmental challenges. “Actually, some of the NUPW party started to feel some of the effects of the conditions in the building as well. Subsequent to that, the conditions have worsened; the [air conditioning] is not working and for the past couple of days…the workers in that building are out of the building,” she said. “Some of them have been allowed to work from home.” (EJ) Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
