The Barbados Fire Service is concerned about the high number of fires occuring on island.

Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard said at a press conference earlier today that there have been over 700 fires this year compared to just over 600 last year.

The blazes so far this year include 37 house fires, over 500 grass fires and more than 200 rubbish fires.

Maynard said he wanted Barbadians to be a little more careful and vigilant.

The fire chief added that he was also concerned about the lives lost to fires
“One life is too much. Fire and life safety is everybody’s business,” he said. (SZB)
