Barbados’ men’s hockey team is on the verge of securing a spot in the semi-finals of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mexico on Friday.

After their dominant 14-0 win against El Salvador in the tournament opener, Barbados returned to the turf in the Dominican Republic and faced a challenging battle against the Mexican team.

Captain Akeem Rudder made several close attempts at scoring, including hitting the post in the fourth period, but it was Justin Catlin who ultimately secured a crucial three points for the Bajans with a goal in the 39th minute.

With this result, Barbados remains unbeaten and currently holds the top position in Group A, accumulating six points.

Barbados is the only team in the men’s competition that has not conceded any goals, thanks to the exceptional performance of goalkeeper Keenan Knight.

The Bajans have also scored the highest number of goals in the tournament (15).

In their next match on Sunday, Barbados will face Jamaica, who secured a 3-0 victory over El Salvador on Friday.

In other men’s matches on Friday, the Dominican Republic defeated Guyana 3-2 in Pool B, while Cuba delivered a convincing 6-3 win over Trinidad & Tobago, also in Pool B.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Barbados women’s team will take the field for their final Pool B match against the Dominican Republic at noon. (RT) ]]>
