The Barbados Football Association (BFA) has announced that senior men’s national footballer Nadre Butcher signed a professional contract today with Irish first division club Bray Wanderers FC.

Butcher, a very promising 19-year-old forward left the island two weeks ago on trial where he impressed tremendously, and scored in a friendly match against Scottish Premier League team Dundee FC earlier this week. Since then, the exciting player was offered a permanent deal and will wear the number 77 jersey.

He has nine caps for the Barbados Tridents and netted his maiden goal during a 2-2 draw against Grenada at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium on February 26. Butcher has also represented Barbados at the U-20 level, playing at the Concacaf Championships in Dominican Republic 2021.

“He is a really good signing. He’s trained with us since we came back after the break. All the paperwork is gone through so I’m really excited about it. I think you can see, he’s something different; he’s exciting and he took his goal really well.

“(He plays) in attacking; wherever. Anywhere across the attacking line; left, right or through the middle. He has that flair and excitement and unpredictability.

He comes with good recommendations and pedigree and he has scored well over there. He’s a Barbados international so he comes well recommended,” head coach Ian Ryan said during an interview with Irish Independent News.

BFA president Randy Harris said: “ Firstly I want to offer congratulate Nadre on a remarkable achievement. Today is a special day for football in Barbados and this is fantastic news. We at the Barbados Football Association are extremely proud of his accomplishments so far as it relates to the signing of his professional contract.

“This shows that local players can gain opportunities to become professional players once given the pathway. Nadre is a bright spark who has worked hard and we are very confident that this is just the beginning of what will be a successful career for him. I wish Nadre all the best as he flies the Barbados flag high.”

Butcher came up through the ranks of local youth club Pro Shottas and started his senior career with Premier League giants and current leaders Weymouth Wales in 2023. Last year, he had a stint with German club Solingen 03. (PR) ]]>
