Charities to benefit from increased funds from fun run

The Chefette Fun Run is making a positive comeback.

The organisers are reporting an increase in monies for donation to four of the island’s charities.

Last year, the event was staged after a two-year hiatus due to the health restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. This year the team was able to raise BDS$125 000, an increase of $5 000.

During a ceremony held at Chefette’s Lears, St Michael Complex on Thursday, managing director of Chefette Restaurants Ryan Haloute said the increase was “amazing especially in these times”.

He added that the event played a significant role in the development of the nation’s youth as it was a mechanism through which disenfranchised children received assistance.

“It’s about children, helping children. If we learn from very, very early to give back and help others . . . it really will spread and spread that love like wildfire and that’s amazing.”

During the ceremony, the management of the four charities outlined the projects where the funds will be used.

One such project is Variety -The Children’s Charity of Barbados Inc. which will use its donation for the Future programme which rolls out before the start of the school year. Parents receive funds to ensure their children get school uniforms and school supplies.

The Young Women’s Christian Association will use the funds for their breakfast programme and to start a summer cooking camp while the Precious Touch Foundation will use the funds to help grant children with medical conditions a wish. The St Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church will use the money to maintain its breakfast programme. 

In 2013, Chefette took over as the title sponsor of what was previously known as the Ship Inn Fun Run. The proceeds from the six mile run go to the Aunty Olga Needy Children’s Fund and is divided among various charities. (SZB)  ]]>
