BL&P lights the way to the new school year

In a display of community support, the Barbados Light & Power Company has come to the aid of children in preparing for the upcoming school year. 

 This year, six charities received special back-to-school packages, ensuring that their young charges are equipped for the classroom. The recipients were the Family C.A.R.E Support Group, the Marina Brewster Children’s Home, the Pile Bay Fisherfolk Association, the Haynesville Community Group, the Barbados National Organisation for the Disabled (BARNOD) and the Prison Fellowship Barbados.

Jackie Marshall-Clarke, Light and Power’s Manager of Communication and Government Relations, expressed the company’s deep satisfaction at being able to lend a helping hand during this critical time of the year. 

 She said: “Light & Power wants to ensure that children, especially those with less resources, have access to school supplies such as backpacks, school books, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers and the other necessary items. Providing these supplies can significantly reduce the financial burden on families and allow students to start the school year prepared and with confidence.”

Manager Communication and Government Relations Jackie Marshall-Clarke pledged Light & Power’s commitment to helping communities.

Neil Dowden, Director of Prison Fellowship Barbados, was full of praise for Light & Power’s ongoing support and urged other companies to follow suit in addressing the critical needs within society. 

“This was the second year Light & Power has assisted with their back-to-school effort for the children,” he said. “They also assist us at Christmas in the season of gift giving, which means that we can make children feel special at that time of year. Many of these children have a parent or parents who are incarcerated and they need that extra help since the regular parental support is not there.”

In the coming year, Light and Power intends to continue its education drive in schools across the island on electrical safety, enhancing the learning experience and helping young people succeed wherever possible, said Marshall-Clarke.

“This means that effective outreach and distribution strategies are crucial and we are always looking for the right community groups and partners to work with. For certain, Light & Power will continue to invest in local communities and strive to achieve the best results through collaboration with others.” (PR)
