There has been a major management shift in the financial services sector in Barbados.

Gregory Hill, the former chairman of the ANSA Merchant Bank Barbados and managing director of ANSA Merchant Bank Trinidad and Tobago, has been appointed the newest Vice President of Finance and Corporate Services at the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

The Barbados-headquartered regional development finance institution announced that Hill took up the position effective Thursday. His extensive portfolio of responsibilities will include finance, human resources, information technology and communications.

The new VP will also play a lead role in resource mobilisation, leading the CDB’s thrust to increase access to development financing for its 19 borrowing member countries across the region.

According to a statement from the CDB, “The Bank’s urgency to improve resource availability, and terms and conditions for access, is heightened in light of the region’s mounting need to finance climate action, sustainable energy transitions, infrastructure development, enhancements to social services, and other elements necessary for growth and sustainable development.”

Commenting on the high-level appointment, CDB President, Dr Hyginus Gene Leon said, “A matter of high priority the Bank is focused on enhancing the financial ecosystem supporting the region’s economies to meet the unique and varied needs of our Borrowing Member Countries who must balance current fiscal obligations with strategies for future growth while building resilience to withstand financial, climate or social shocks.

“Gregory’s wealth of experience in the regional banking sector will be invaluable to CDB and I am pleased to welcome him to the executive leadership team.”

Hill is a national of Trinidad and Tobago, and his career in the regional finance sector spans more than 30 years, with his most recent role being Managing Director at ANSA Merchant Bank in Trinidad and Tobago.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies and an Executive MBA from the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business. He is also a graduate and Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, (UK) (FCCA) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago.
