Barbados has won some prestigious awards and nominations recently, including being named Best Winter Sun Destination at the Travel Bulletin Star Awards and Favourite Caribbean Island at Ice Travel Group’s inaugural Destination Awards.

Barbados was also recently named a finalist in the Tourism Board of the Year category at the Travel Industry Awards 2023 by TTG, rounding off a prosperous few weeks on the travel industry awards front.

Director, UK at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) Cheryl Carter said: “We are so proud to be recognised in this way, by such prestigious organisations. The island of Barbados provides the warmest welcome in the Caribbean, offering an unforgettable experience for its visitors.”

Most recently, Barbados was shortlisted in three categories at the 2023 Travel Bulletin Star Awards last week. Picking up the gong for best Winter Sun Destination, Barbados was the only Caribbean destination to win a 2023 Star Award, beating other leading winter sun destinations Cyprus, Jamaica, Madeira, Tenerife, Thailand and Tunisia to pick up the accolade.

The other categories Barbados received nominations for were Star Luxury Destination and Star Tourist Office Team.

Travel Bulletin is one of the largest trade publications in the UK and the Star awards have been running for the past 25 years, with voting conducted exclusively by UK trade professionals.

Ice Travel Group is the parent company of TravelSupermarket and icelolly.com, and 16 destination awards were handed out over the course of the evening, each of them voted for by TravelSupermarket and icelolly.com customers via a survey which garnered over 25,000 votes.

The BTMI team joined other tourist boards and travel companies at the awards ceremony at Ice Tank in London last month, walking away with the accolade.

The BTMI UK celebrated being a finalist in the Tourism Board of the Year category at the prestigious Travel Industry Awards 2023 by TTG, which took place in September.

“This recognition not only reflects the team’s commitment to excellence in promoting tourism but also showcases its dedication to providing unforgettable experiences for travellers,” said a BTMI statement.

Barbados was the only Caribbean country and non-European country to have been included in the Tourism Board of the Year shortlist.

The Travel Industry Awards by TTG are the toughest and most coveted in the sector, with a combination of written submissions, agent ratings and live presentations all helping to identify the best suppliers and sellers of travel in the UK and Ireland and to showcase those winners to consumers.
