In a display of basketball dominance, Harrison College (HC) left their opponent Deighton Griffith in the dust with a resounding 24-point blowout victory (57-33) on Tuesday.
HC’s win set the stage for a semifinal clash against Queen’s College in the Co-operators General Insurance National Sports Council (NSC) Under-19 basketball tournament on November 27.
The quarterfinal match between HC and Deighton Griffith at Crumpton Street, showcased an early battle with the first quarter ending at a close score of 6-3.
However, everything changed in the second period, thanks to the exceptional performance of Aaron Weatherhead, who notched up an impressive game-high 14 points.
Weatherhead took charge in the second period, as HC outscored Deighton Griffith 15-5.
By halftime, HC had built a commanding 21-8 lead, leaving their opponents struggling to keep up.
Although Deighton Griffith, spurred on by Kadeem Brathwaite, who scored 10 points and Joshua Burke who added nine, showed signs of promise in the third period, HC, spearheaded by their star player Weatherhead was prepared to meet the challenge head-on.
Heading into the final quarter with a comfortable 38-21 advantage, HC continued its dominance, scoring 19 points compared to Deighton Griffith’s 12, ultimately sealing the lopsided contest.
Aside from the exceptional performance by Weatherhead, HC received crucial contributions from Dominic Gardener who scored 10) points, Tristan Catlyn contributed eight, and Issac Griffith added 7, further solidifying their team’s strength and depth.
In another quarterfinal showdown on Tuesday, The Lodge School triumphed over St Michael with an impressive 63-43 victory, securing their spot in the semifinals.
They are now set to face the winner between Barbados Community College and Combermere, which will be played on Wednesday at Eyrie Howells’ Road.
