Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 466 One of the more talked about features of Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados are the lush and beautiful gardens. In fact, it’s an aspect that has won the hearts of several visitors and team members who have walked the grounds and admired the vast variety of trees and flowering plants firsthand. For Dichawn Alleyne, it’s a bit more personal. As the supervisor of the landscaping team, it was his attention to detail and hard work that landed him the 2022 Diamond Team Member of the Year Award (Employee of the Year). Alleyne joined the company in 2017 and has worked his way up from landscaper to supervisor with hopes of being a landscaping manager in the near future. “It all still feels like a dream to me. I was just doing my work as normal when human resources presented me with an envelope and said I was one of the nominees for the upcoming Prestige Awards. I actually wasn’t sure I would attend but some of my team members also got invited so we decided to make a night of it and have some fun,” he said. He was in for the shock of his life when they announced him as the top team member to rousing applause. I didn’t even know I was nominated for the category, and when I saw some of the more popular persons on the screen, I said to myself ‘well, at least they see me in a good way and my hard work has paid off’,” Alleyne recalled. “When my picture came up, I didn’t even hear the announcement, just my team and manager screaming and urging me to come on stage. I froze and was speechless. When the Minister of Tourism Mr Ian Gooding Edghill and Managing Director [of Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados] Mr Carl Beviere handed me the plaque and letter, I was still in disbelief, so I didn’t say much except ‘thank you’.” To ensure future progression, Dichawn has enrolled in the Sandals Corporate University and already achieved certificates in Project Management, Customer Service, Supervisory Skills and Excel Spreadsheet. “Working at Sandals has always been my dream and so far it has been amazing. I am very excited for my future with the company,” he said. (PR) Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
