The PGDFF recently unveiled its latest library at the Ann Hill School under its Barbados is Blooming project. Presently stocked with 75 books, the library is slated for regular updates every six months, facilitated by sponsors and other entities interested in contributing books. Global Health Advisor with PGDFF Dr Kandamaran Krishnamurthy said the primary goal of the initiative is to foster childrenโs interest in reading. โWe want to encourage children to read booksโฆ. The fundamental needs for youth include a quality education, which correlates with good health and wealth,โ he said. Dr Krishnamurthy disclosed that although the initiative began in Barbados, the foundation aspires to extend its reach regionally and internationally. Additionally, discussions are underway to establish libraries at other special needs schools,โ he said. The first mini library was opened at the Parkinson Memorial School on November 7. The libraries are constructed by students enrolled in the woodworking class at the Barbados Community College. Director of Massy Foundation Barbados Inc., Dawn Layne expressed her satisfaction in collaborating once again with PGDFF to ignite the love of reading. โReading is essential and we need to understand that it is not a choreโฆit is essential in every part of our lives, whether we are young people or older young people,โ she said.
