Romany crossed the finish line in a time of four minutes and 38 seconds (4:38), setting the tone for the 40th edition of Run Barbados, a global magnet for athletes. Departing Garrison Savannah with a cash prize of US$250, Romany told Barbados TODAY that he also has his sights set on conquering the 10K and half marathon challenges as well. Rick Williams (4:46) of Barbados and Kenya’s Alex Ekem (4:48) placed second and third respectively in the male open category, while Ashlyn Simmons, Mem Cruz and Carlie Robinson were the top three open females. The competition shifts to the East Coast today, with all races commencing at Barclay’s Park in St Andrew.
