This initiative was made possible by the Massy IRP Annual Holiday Feeding Programme and the Salvation Army. Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Major Robert Pyle told Barbados TODAY that the response to the programme has been great, and he is happy that the organisation could be the conduit used to put smiles on people’s faces this holiday season. “Christmas can be daunting for a lot of people. It is always a time when you can see they are very appreciative of either the hampers or the meal. It is very touching when ordinary Barbadians can come together with corporate Barbados and share their resources with the Salvation Army to enable us to reach out to those less fortunate in our community,” he said. Massy Stores CEO Jared Wright said the annual initiative is something the company looks forward to, and as long as there is a need, Massy would be there. “This is a time of giving no matter your religious beliefs. Around the nation, it is our responsibility as corporate Barbados, and this is one of the ways that we give back to the community. To those who are in need, please come to the Salvation Army. There are various support groups around the island that we support and corporate Barbados supports,” he said. Meanwhile, Major Pyle informed the media that the organisation’s Christmas Appeal fundraising drive is now slightly above $300 000, a little below last year’s donations for the same period. Nevertheless, he is hopeful they will reach their target of $850 000. corettajoe@barbadostoday.bb Barbados Today Stay informed and engaged with our digital news platform.
