Titans defeated table toppers Guardians by a commanding 51-runs, whilst Voyagers kept themselves in the semifinal race by beating Pelicans by 22 runs in the latest round matches of the BIM 10 cricket competition at the Desmond Haynes Oval yesterday.

Invited to bat, Titans racked up 149 for six, with a flurry of shots from the blazing bats of Player-of-the-Match Nyeem Young who made 37, Raymond Reifer (33) and Matthew Jones (24 not out)

Young’s knock included four fours and three sixes off the 12 balls he faced, while Reifer, opening the batting, took 18 balls and hit three sixes and a four.

It was virtual carnage against the Guardians’ bowlers who seemed to have no way of stemming the gush of runs.

In their turn at the crease, table leaders Guardians briefly kept hopes of achieving the mountainous target while Roshon Primus (32) and Ryshon Williams were in partnership for the second wicket. But the former’s dismissal in the sixth over signaled a terminal slide to 98 for 7 when the 10 overs expired.

Primus crunched five fours and a six in an entertaining innings and Williams hit four fours in a knock of 31, but fast bowler Stefan Griffith (3-14) set the cat among the pigeons with a three wicket burst off two pacy overs.

In the other match, Voyagers scored a second consecutive win over Pelicans who slumped to a third defeat on the trot to put a dent in their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Six of the seven Voyagers batters who came to the wicket reached double figures but it was knocks of 21 each from Amari Goodridge and Javon Grosvenor that helped them plunder 45 runs from the final three overs that shot them to 104 for 6.

Pelicans were made to struggle all the way through the 10 overs before eventually crawling to 82 for 7 to concede defeat.

Giovante Depeiza with his left-arm spin, was the chief wrecker with three wickets for 18, backed up by pacer Johan Layne (2-10) and economical spells by all the other bowlers.

Two more rounds of preliminary matches remain before the semifinalists are decided, with Guardians on 12 points, the only team guaranteed one of the slots. (GH)
