As the Barbados Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) prepared for its annual general meeting

next Thursday, president Dr Pamala Proverbs is urging communication professionals to become members of the organisation.

Current and prospective members of IABC Barbados are invited to attend the January 25, 2024 meeting which will be held at the Frank Collymore Hall and is expected to provide a platform for communication professionals to connect, share experiences, and contribute to the growth of our vibrant community.

As she encouraged professionals in the communications field to join the association, the IABC Barbados president said she was determined to see communication treated with the same level of respect as other professions.

She said the IABC, as a recognised professional body for communicators, can play a significant role in achieving this goal.

“As a body, we have been working consistently to provide networking and professional development opportunities for our members. Last year, we had some successes,” Proverbs said.

“For example, Christal Austin, a former president of IABC Barbados, was a presenter at the World Conference, and we also hosted at least two local professional development events for members, one of which attracted participation from an international presenter.  This year, we are hoping to build on this and get more members involved not only locally but internationally through participation in the World Conference slated for Chicago in June or through volunteerism on one of the internal committees.”

The agenda for the upcoming AGM includes a comprehensive review of the Chapter’s activities, financial report, and the election of new officers to the Executive Board.
