T he Ministry of Education has sought to reassure parents and guardians of students at the Lester Vaughan School that no decision will be made about the resumption of in-person classes until a promised meeting is held.

A meeting was initially scheduled for last week but was deferred to facilitate the attendance of parents as well as Ian Weekes, the author of the reports on environmental conditions at the school, so he can address parents directly.

The ministry said Chief Education Officer Dr  Ramona Archer Bradshaw spoke today with President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Rudy Lovell and President of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union Mary-Anne Redman to provide them with an update, and the school’s principal has communicated with the President of the PTA on the matter.

The ministry added that after further consideration of the concerns expressed by some teachers and parents, it has invited officers from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Health to weigh in on the existing conditions at the school plant, and further inform the decision on the way forward for the Lester Vaughan School.

“Once all available information has been collated and all parties have indicated their availability, the new date and time will be announced in a subsequent release,” it said.
