The two-time defending champions in the Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Championships have gotten off to a perfect start by winning their first two games. Playing in Beausejour on Wednesday, Barbados’ Under-16 team defeated Dominica 28-20 in their opener. The Baby Gems led 7-2 after the first quarter and 14-9 at the half. They then extended their lead to six (20-14) at the end of the third period, before going on to register a comfortable victory. In their second match on Thursday, Barbados romped to a 22-13 win over St Vincent and the Grenadines. The match was evenly contested in the first quarter with the scored tied at 4-4. However, the Bajan girls put their foot on the gas in the second quarter, netting seven unanswered goals to take an 11-4 lead into halftime.
