The Ministry explained that not all parents are comfortable meeting at the Lester Vaughan School until the results of recent environmental tests are explained and concerns are addressed and therefore Queen’s College was chosen as a neutral location with the hall capacity to successfully accommodate the anticipated numbers. The meeting will be chaired by the Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, and other ministry officials, Principal of the Lester Vaughan School Suzette Holder, the Chairman of the Board of Management Dr Donley Carrington, and Air Quality Expert Mr. Ian Weekes who conducted the environmental tests at the school plant. Weekes, who authored the most recent air quality report will make a presentation on his findings and will answer any additional questions or concerns raised. The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Health, who both performed assessments at the school, will also be represented at the meeting. Meanwhile, in a progress update on the completion of the School Based Assessments, the Principal Holder has indicated that the SBAs across subjects are 90 per cent completed. It is understood that there are only two subjects that may not be completed by the school’s internal deadline of 05 April 2024. However, the Principal has assured that she is committed to working with the teachers of these subjects to ensure that their children are not disadvantaged in preparing for their CXC examinations.
