The physical education (PE) department flexed their athletic muscle at the Barbados Community College’s (BCC) 41st Inter-Divisional Games, leaving the competition in their wake.
The track and field meet on Friday was a stage for dominance, with PE students racking up points and securing top honors.
The competition featured a range of exciting events, including the ever-popular tug-of-war, alongside races from 100m to 3000m, cheerleading, and thrilling relay showdowns.
When the dust had settled, PE were announced winners with 212 points, far exceeding Commerce’s 92 points in second place. The rest of the pack followed with Natural Science (85 points), Computer Science (27 points), Health Science (22 points), Technology & General Education (15 points), Liberal Arts, Fine Arts & Language Centre (14 points), and Hospital (8 points).
The story of the day belonged to PE student Rianna Cyrus. She dominated the track and field events, securing a remarkable four victories. Her gold medals in the long jump, shot put, 800m, and 1500m were complemented by a podium finish in the discus.
This stellar performance earned her a staggering 32 points and the coveted titles of victrix ludorum and Most Valuable Player (MVP).
She also teamed up with her fellow PE colleagues to secure victory in the 4x400m relay and a silver medal in the 4x100m relay.
PE’s dominance extended beyond Cyrus.
Serena Jackman, another PE student, scorched the track with victories in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, adding 21 points to the tally.
On the men’s side, Kimani Greaves from PE secured the victor ludorum title with 24 points. He captured gold in the long jump, a silver medal in the 400m and a fourth-place finish in the 3000m to showcase his versatility.
PE’s dominance continued with victories in both the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Students from Ross University added an extra layer of camaraderie by participating in various events and lending their medical expertise where necessary.
The event was a culmination of two months of various sporting disciplines which included basketball, cricket, volleyball, badminton, netball, table tennis, futsal, and athletics.
The Inter-Divisional games sought to promote sportsmanship and team spirit.
