The Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) and management at the Barbados National Oil Company Ltd are now set to meet after some workers withdrew their services this morning.

According to the union’s deputy general secretary Dwaine Paul, the workers’ repeated pleas and calls for management to address their critical concerns, some dating back two years, have fallen on “deaf ears”.

“These issues range from matters related to pay, working conditions, equipment, and general treatment. It is really and truly unfortunate that in 2024, workers need to take industrial action on matters of safety, matters of equipment to do work for which they are contracted, matters in relation to pay for which they are entitled and were promised but yet not delivered, and [are] met with no feedback from those in authority, except to say that they were travelling. This is an unacceptable position and, therefore, the union is in full support of the workers,” he said of the industrial action.

Paul said the workers will await the outcome of the meeting to decide their next course of action.
“Results must come out of those meetings for those workers; otherwise than that, I cannot promise that there will be a return to work today or tomorrow,” the BWU official said
