Christ Church Girls’ School has emerged victorious in the Barbados Light & Power Battle of the Bots competition, showcasing the rising talent in coding and robotics among the island’s primary schools. The contest, a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education, brought together ten schools at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology on Wednesday.

The all-girls team from Christ Church impressed the judges with their technical prowess, securing the top spot and walking away with a 50-inch television, a plaque, and a trophy. Blackman and Gollop Primary and Arthur Smith Primary claimed the second and third positions, respectively.

Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw highlighted the broader impact of the event. She emphasised that the competition went beyond mere victory, fostering essential life skills such as collaboration, communication, and mutual respect among participants.

“This coding and robotics competition has allowed students to learn the value of perseverance and self-determination, qualities that pave the way for achievement and success, not just in schools but in future careers and the relationships that they may form. Striving for our greatness is more than a lofty ambition. It is a mindset, it is a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation,” Archer-Bradshaw noted.

The Battle of the Bots serves as a platform for young innovators to apply their technical knowledge in practical scenarios, preparing them for future challenges in an increasingly tech-driven world. (SZB)
