Barbados joined hosts Jamaica, along with Trinidad & Tobago and the US Virgin Islands, in both semifinals of the  CAZOVA U19 Boys and Girls Volleyball Championships in Spanish Town, Jamaica, on Friday.

On Day 5 at GC Foster College, the Barbados boys had to battle through the quarterfinals. There, they overpowered Aruba 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-8). Barbados were set to tackle hosts Jamaica in the second semifinal. Results were unavailable up to press time.

Speaking after the quarteffinal fixture, Barbados men’s coach Curtis Burkett said: “We have to be happy, but the real work starts now. The semifinal is going to be a tough game against Jamaica. It’s going to be tough, but we are  going to try to win it.”

In the lone women’s quarterfinal game on Day 5, Jamaica were too strong for Aruba, and ran out easy 3-0 winners. Jamaica were set to take on USVI in the second semifinal.

Trinidad & Tobago.

Their semifinal rematch proved to be an epic, see-saw affair, with neither Trinbago nor the Bajan lasses giving an inch.

The contest went all the way to the wire, with Trinidad & Tobago prevailing in five sets, after forcing the tiebreaker with a 25-23 win in the fourth frame.

Barbados’ women will play for the bronze medal at the weekend in Spanish Town.
