Drakes, Austin score half centuries for Spartan

Joshua Drakes and Mikhail Austin both scored half centuries to lead Fusionz Boutique Spartan to a score of 199 while Stefon King and Sadrian Ward picked up two wickets a piece late in the day to leave Yorkshire struggling at 35/5 on day one of the third series of the Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division Competition at Queens Park.

Winning the toss and choosing to bat, Drakes and Austin built a 119 run partnership for the home side after they came together with the score on 19/2. Drakes top scored with a brilliant 88 in 115 balls, which included three fours and eight sixes. Austin made 52 in 67 balls with five fours and two sixes.

For Yorkshire, Indal Persaud grabbed a five wicket haul as he ended with 5/78 in 14.2 overs.

Spartan took the attack to the Yorkshire batters as they picked up the first three wickets within the first seven balls to leave the visiting team 0/3. Yorkshire trail by 164 runs with five wickets in hand.

At Beckles Road:  Wildey’s left arm spinner Deswin Currency picked up four quick wickets as the top order of the YMPC batting lineup lost five wickets in eight balls to go from 21/0 to 21/5.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, home team YMPC managed to score 126 in 38.1 overs.

Former West Indies batter Dwayne Smith top scored with a rapid 38 in 23 balls while Edwin Currency Barnett scored 36.

Deswin Currency (Wildey) wreaked havoc on the YMPC batters.

Currency finished with 4/20 in 10 overs while Zishan Motara took 3/16 in 5.1 overs.

In their turn at bat, Wildey were 68/1 after batting17 overs before the end of play, trailing by 58 runs with nine wickets in hand, Zach McCaskie was unbeaten on 44 from 61 balls.

Scores: Bayview Hospital YMPC 126 all out (38.1 overs) (Dwayne Smith 38, Edwin Currency-Barnett 36, Rashad Willoughby 24, Deswin Currency 4-20, Zishan Motara 3-16, Jerome Jones 2-48).

Wildey 68-1 (17 overs) (Zachary McCaskie 44 not out).

At Cane Garden: Table toppers Empire have the upper hand after winning the toss and sending in the SigniaGlobe Financial BCA Youth team to bat, West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican was the main bowler as he picked up the final five batters of the youth team to bowl them out for 152.

For the BCA Youth, Micah Greenidge played a splendid innings as he top scored with 54 in 74 balls which included three fours and four sixes.

Warrican finished with 5/30 as Off Spinner Kobe Williams picked up 3/12.

Empire in reply are 92/1 with Hakeem Perryman scoring 40.

Kobe Williams picked up three wickets for Empire.

At Rices: Wanderers 261-6 (70 overs) (Jared Lovell 73 – 96 balls, eight threes, five fours; Jonathan Drakes 59 – 60 balls, one three, nine fours; Seth Agard 55 – 127 balls, four threes; Ian Boyce 34, Jordan Reifer 22 not out, Shamario Depeiza 2-23) v Superb Blend Gladiola.

Toss: Gladiola.

Micah Greenidge made 54 for BCA Youth.
