An 11-member team representing International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) Barbados at the 4th ISKF World Shoto Cup in London returned home this weekend with nine medals, including one gold. The team competed at the University of East London.

Going up against more than 350 karatekas from 18 countries spanning six continents, the Bajans brought back eight bronze medals and one gold medal, with the juniors and teenagers accounting for all but two of that total.

In the junior team kata, the trio comprising Jayden Jobe, Levi Kelly, and Enowshua Delpeache got three bronze medals. The junior division included karatekas between the ages of 7 and 10, competing up to purple belt.

Jobe and Kelly excelled individually in that category as well, both copping bronze medals in the junior individual kumite.

The sole gold medal went to Terrique Jordan in the teenager kata, whereas in the teenager kumite, Trinity Knight picked up yet another bronze medal. Teenagers competed in black  belt and brown belt categories.

The senior individual kata resulted in a double bronze for Barbados as well.

Michael Roberts, Maria Warren, and Sueleman Nana, Sisporansa Stanford, Maria Warren, and Shona Griffith all competed in the senior (45-55) as well as the super senior (55 plus) divisions, in team and individual kata.

Aside from Terrique Jordan and Trinity Knight, the teenagers also included Latrell Knight in both individual kata and kumite.

The Shoto Cup was held at the UEL SportsDock, along with training seminars led by Hiroyoshi Okazaki Shihan.
