In a heartfelt tribute at the quiet get-together, Waltersโs son, Robert Walters, reminisced about his motherโs life. He recalled her resilience and dedication in raising six children, despite their challenges in those times. โIt was tough growing up, especially in the 60s when wages were low and life was hard,โ Robert shared. โBut Mum worked tirelessly as a cook in hotels and private homes, sometimes for long hours, to provide for us.โ He recalled how his mother demonstrated commitment beyond her work. She taught her children the importance of education, discipline, and family unity. โMum was adamant about education. She made sure we went to school and got an education so that we could do better than she did,โ he explained, highlighting how she prioritised their future despite her own limited opportunities. Paulette Beckles, Waltersโs daughter, also shared her appreciation for their motherโs nurturing spirit. Her children fondly remembered her small acts of care, such as her meticulous grocery lists well into her late 90s, ensuring her household ran smoothly. Despite her advancing years, her sharp mind and commitment to her family never faltered.
