Sandals Barbados Resort was out in full representation at the recent South Coast Hotels and Resorts of Barbados Race Day on the historic Garrison Savannah.

The event, now in its fourth year, has become a staple for local horseracing fans and visitors to the island alike. Fans witnessed eight races on the day, one of which was sponsored by the luxury all-inclusive resort. This, coupled with the presence of team members and hotel guests, made for an exceptional day for all involved.

Resort Manager Patrick Drake said he was more than happy at the opportunity to be part of the popular Saturday pastime, and presented the winning trophy to the lucky horse owner.

“We did this not only for our valued guests but for our team members and community members who came out to have a good time,” Drake explained. “It’s part of what we do to find the right balance of work and play.”

He also labelled the day a success, and noted that the event is quickly becoming a fan favourite for Sandals Barbados guests.

“We have two couples who specifically booked their vacation for this event and are intent on inviting their friends to join them next year,” Drake revealed. “Sandals is a proud sponsor and we are committed to playing our part in promoting the country of Barbados.”

The actual race was won by Amaretta who was jockeyed by Rey Williams, followed by Dream Lake and Brunei in third place.

Two of the resort’s guests, Mr and Mrs Adamson, were thrilled with the day’s activities.

“We want to express our sincere thanks to [Sandals], your team and your friends for a fantastic day at the Garrison Savannah,” said Mr Adamson. “We had such a great time, one of the highlights of our already outstanding holiday.”

Sandals food stations were also present at the VIP food court area for hotel guests and special invitees.

“This year, each of the hotels that participated provided a dish at the VIP area for persons to sample; this was one of the more popular highlights of the day,” said Drake.

This staging also saw an increase in attendance in comparison to previous years and was witnessed by Chairman of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) Javon Griffith and Senator Dr Shantal Munro-Knight, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with responsibility for Culture.
