Bridgetown, Barbados – February 1, 2025 – The Cultural Expansion Program (CEP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Peace Program, has launched a historic initiative using culture as a weapon against crime. This groundbreaking movement has received the full endorsement of Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight, Minister of Culture, and Honorable Corey Lane, Minister of State in the Office of the Attorney General.

Cultural Expansion Program Meets National Peace Program

During a powerful address, Hon. Corey Lane praised the CEP’s dedication to tackling crime through music, creativity, and community engagement. “This partnership marks a crucial step in using culture as a tool for peace, unity, and positive change,” he stated. To strengthen this mission, the National Peace Program has welcomed Mr. Pumpy Doo as Brand Manager and Mr. Mario Arthur as Creative Director from CEP.

Arthur emphasized the long-term vision of the program, stating, “This isn’t about expecting crime to magically disappear overnight, but about consistent efforts to give people a choice—a meaningful path to channel their skills and talents.” He further highlighted the importance of financial empowerment for at-risk youth, calling the initiative a “seed of change” aimed at reshaping future generations.

SCHOOL REP: The First Initiative Under the Cultural & Crime Prevention Union

The first project under this powerful union is SCHOOL REP—an Interschool Social Media Song Contest that merges school rivalry, music, and non-violent competition. Set to launch in just two weeks, this contest will provide a dynamic stage for youth expression while reinforcing values of discipline, teamwork, and creativity.

How SCHOOL REP Works:

• Students record a performance video of their original song.
• Videos are submitted to Instagram (@smokefactory_bb).
• Public voting on Instagram determines the winner based on likes.

Grand Prizes & Recognition:

• $2,500 cash prize for the winner.
• $1,000 donation to the winner’s school music department.
• $1,000 cash for second-place students.
• $500 cash for third-place students.

The contest is built on the theme of “Clean Conflict – Musical Rivalry Without Violence”, allowing students to celebrate school spirit while reinforcing positive engagement in music and sports.
