Bullets strike home and car in The City

Sharon Chandler was in her home on Vine Street, Nelson Street, The City when several gunshots rang out in the community.

Her house was damaged, as was a car in the area. The area is not far from the site of the old general hospital where Prime Minister Mia Mottley, the Grenadian leader Dickon Mitchell, and CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett would assemble hours later to break ground on a landmark African Trade Centre in a $360 million development.

Chandler told reporters at the scene that a bullet struck around her bedroom; luckily she had made an early start to her day.

“I usually get up early on mornings and this is one of these mornings that I didn’t feel too hot and I get up and start to cook early,” Chandler told reporters.

Chandler recounted that she was about to go to the door to retrieve an iron she had lent her neighbour when she heard a barrage of gunshots.

“By time I get to the door, I hear bear gunshots ringing out, all I coulda do is run in the back, try running and falling down and hollering, that is all I know about it. Then, somebody holler for me and ask me if I okay and I tell them ‘yes’, but a bullet gone through my house.”

Police said that around 9:15 a.m. they received reports that gunshots were discharged at Vine and Spruce Streets.
