Earlier this week, Romane Antonio Burton, 27, pleaded guilty before Acting Magistrate Bernadeth John to committing the offence against his girlfriend Tashaya Smith, on April 4. On their second appearance, Magistrate John imposed a $3 000 fine on Burton and $1 500 compensation or the alternative of six months in prison. Both the amounts were paid before the two were taken away by Immigration officers.
