Police Constable Edmond Winfield Barrow, who was remanded to prison on March 28 on a rape charge, has been granted bail by High Court Judge Anthony L. Blackman.

The decision came on Tuesday following an urgent bail application filed by Barrow’s attorney, Meshach Thornhill. After hearing submissions from both the defence and prosecution, the judge granted Barrow $25 000 bail with two sureties.

As part of his bail conditions, Barrow must not contact any witnesses in the case and is to maintain a distance of at least 100 metres from the virtual complainant, who has accused him of rape on January 8 this year. He must report to the Oistins Police Station every Wednesday by 10 a.m. with identification, and surrender all travel documents to the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

The judge warned that any breach of the conditions would result in the revocation of bail. Barrow, of Sunjet Drive, Lowlands, Christ Church, was also ordered not to engage in any activity that could result in a new criminal charge.

His 16-year-old co-accused, Cristiano Ronaldo Jackman, of Water Street, Christ Church, had previously been released on $10 000 bail.

Jackman is represented by attorney Kristin Vanderpool.
