The men of the Abundant Life Assembly were dedicated to making the moms in their congregation feel special as they took charge of the service on Mother’s Day.

From leading the worship and praise session to managing all stewarding responsibilities, the men created a welcoming atmosphere.

One of the morning’s most touching moments came when they all gathered at the front of the church to serenade the mothers in song, a gesture that drew smiles and a standing ovation from the appreciative women in the congregation.

Pastor Reverend Paul Garnes, in his sermon reminded, “Fathers have authority, but mothers have influence.”

He said, “The key distinguishing feature of an encouraging mother is a mother of faith, sincere faith, genuine faith.”

The special service also served as an opportunity to recognise three exceptional women whose contributions and service have left a lasting impact on the church community.

Among the honourees was Marva Forde, a devoted member of the church for over 35 years. Forde has served faithfully in multiple ministries, including tending the sanctuary’s plants and volunteering with the Meals on Wheels programme.

She was described as “a shining example of devotion, humility, and enduring commitment to Abundant Life Assembly.” Even in her senior years, she remains active at the church’s senior centre and is widely known for her delightful baking skills.

Also honoured was Vashti Straker, one of the church’s longest-serving stewardesses. With more than 27 years of continuous service, her steady presence and unshakeable commitment have been a true blessing to the congregation. Her legacy, church leaders noted, is one of quiet strength and unwavering faith.

The third tribute was paid to Suaz Blair, who serves as the adult choir director and worship leader. Blair is also instrumental in ministering to hearing-impaired members during services, helping ensure the message is accessible to all. She plays a vital role in Vacation Bible School and is widely regarded as a source of encouragement and inspiration within the church.

A liturgical dance was part of the tributes.

The programme also featured a liturgical dance by some of the young members of the church, and there was showcase of musical talent. Pianist Nikita Vaughn delivered a flawless performance that moved the audience, while flautist Ivanna Odle added to the musical celebration with a graceful rendition in tribute to the mothers.

As the service concluded, the smiles on the faces of the mothers made it clear that the efforts of the men had not gone unnoticed and that love, service, and fellowship remain at the heart of the congregation. (STT)
