Newly appointed West Indies Vice Captain Jomel Warrican ripped through the innings of the IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire Cricket team as his Empire Club took command on Day 1 of the fourth series in the 2025 Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Elite division three-day Championship on Saturday.

Empire won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Yorkshire were off to a great start playing on their home field at Friendship. The opening pair of Jaden Webster and Athelbert Brathwaite reached 65 for no loss after 11 overs.

Warrican then broke the partnership with his left-arm spin when he removed Webster for 38 as he paired with fellow spin bowler Kobe Williams as they accounted for all 10 Yorkshire wickets to fall. Warrican grabbed 6 wickets for 25 runs in 12 overs while Williams finished with 4 for 49 in 11 overs. Yorkshire fell for 121 in 31 overs.

Empire have already gained first innings points as they ended the day on 167 for 5. Kevin Stoute made 56 in 54 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Scores: IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire 121 all out (Jaden Webster 38, Jomel Warrican 6-25, Kobe Williams 4-49).

Empire 167-5 (33 overs) (Kevin Stoute 56; Shakeem John-Ruck 3-59).

Toss: Empire.

Teenage fast bowler Kyron King steaming in for Wanderers as he grabbed 4 wickets against YMPC.

Fast bowlers Kyron King and Jair McAllister picked up four wickets apiece as defending champions Wanderers bowled out Bayview Hospital YMPC for 130 at the Dayrells Road grounds.

YMPC Captain Jadan Jones batted well at number 3 to score 46 in 43 balls, but got little support from his teammates as the pacers of Wanderers took advantage of the favourable bowling conditions. Leg spinner Isaiah Folkes chipped in with 2 wickets in 4 overs.

Wanderers are 52 for 2 in their response as they have so far lost former West Indies Captain Kraigg Brathwaite for 18 and Jazz Griffith for 26. One of the tournament’s leading wicket takers, Shamar Marshall, picked up both wickets to fall with his left-arm spin.

Scores: Bayview Hospital YMPC 130 all out (22 overs) (Jadan Jones 46; Jair McAllister 4-31, Kyron King 4-72).

Wanderers 52-2 (13 overs)

Toss: Wanderers.

Romario Greaves and Recarlo Boyce picked up 5 wickets each as University of the West Indies (UWI) gained control by dismissing Superb Blendz Gladiola for 157 at the Rices playing field, St Phillip.

Ashley Nurse showed some resistance with his swashbuckling innings of 43 in 26 balls. Once he was removed, Gladiola fell from 118 for 4 to 157 all out during a 12-over span. Greaves and Boyce bowled 13 overs each in the innings.

UWI ended the day on 40 for 1 from 14 overs.
