Residents warned of fake Light & Power workers after robberies

Barbados Light & Power has urged customers to be vigilant after a series of robberies in which criminals have allegedly posed as company employees to gain access to homes and businesses.

“There is a heightened risk that fraudulent individuals may impersonate legitimate Light & Power employees to gain unauthorised access to private residences and places of business,” Vice President of Operations Johann Greaves said in a statement issued on Friday.

He urged customers to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the utility before allowing them inside.

“We appreciate the trust our valued customers and the community places in us and assure them that we take matters like this very seriously, and their safety and security remain among our highest priorities,” Greaves added.

The company reminded the public that most of its work is conducted outside of premises, including the ongoing advanced metering infrastructure replacement programme in parts of Christ Church and St Philip, as well as service connections.

Customers are encouraged to confirm appointments by calling the Customer Care hotline on 626-4300, and to report any suspicious activity either to the company or, in an emergency, to the police.
