Make a Book Project partners with library service to promote literacy

The Make a Book Project (MAB) recently joined the National Library Service’s Literacy for All Fair at Golden Square Freedom Park as one of its official partners, celebrating creativity, literacy, and community learning.

Following a musical interlude, the team lead of the Make a Book Project, Curtis Padmore, highlighted the exciting initiatives ahead for the project.

He announced that the extended summer edition of MAB will run until September 30, giving children ages eight to 12 across primary and secondary schools the chance to participate.

For this summer’s edition, the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust (SLCT) is the premier sponsor.

In this unique programme, students will be able to submit up to 12 story titles, with each title inspired by one of the 12 community projects supported by the SLCT.

“Children will not only engage in creative storytelling but will also learn about the impactful charitable projects of the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust,” explained Padmore. “It is an opportunity for students, parents, and teachers alike to deepen their awareness of the meaningful work being done in communities across Barbados.”

At the fair, the MAB booth welcomed members of the public to explore and learn more about the project. Visitors had the chance to view the 12 printed books from the 2024 MAB launch, as well as the eBooks from the 2025 Trinity term edition, while discussing the project’s mission and future.

The Make a Book Project empowers children to become authors by providing opportunities to write, illustrate, and publish their own books.
