These are the humble, quiet individuals who are not looking for rewardโฆ. Itโs important that we recognise them and say thanks.โ ย An astonished Daniel admitted she was stunned by the recognition. โI honestly still canโt believe it,โ she said. โOn behalf of the winners, we want to thank CIBC for recognising that thereโs a need not only to reward people for their work, but also to show average Barbadians that anyone, regardless of colour, creed or background, can make a difference. Thereโs so much space โ it will never be full.โ ย Reflecting on her environmental work, she added, โWhen people hear the term hero, they think of helping people directly. With the environment, you donโt really see that human connection, but itโs there.โ ย Tudor, recognised for decades of disability advocacy, shared a similar sentiment of surprise. โI feel a mixture of emotions because Iโm usually the one trying to identify unsung heroes,โ she said. โI never thought someone would recognise me as one. Weโre not looking for recognition, weโre looking to make an impact.โ ย Francis, a retired teacher with 47 years of service, was praised for his ongoing tutoring of children and adults. โItโs extremely humbling,โ he said. โThe joy I feel in working with children, with adults, even parents who never finished secondary school, is immense.โ ย Francis added that his dream is to expand community tutoring programmes for older students preparing for CXC English. ย Daniel will now advance to the regional stage of the competition, with the overall Caribbean winner to be announced in the coming weeks. ย (SB) ย ย Shamar Blunt You may also like Project to get kids active launches at St Lucy Primary 09/05/2026 Awardโwinning author delights young readers at library event 09/05/2026 Roberts Manufacturingโs public share offer closes successfully 09/05/2026
