A hurricane warning was in effect for the island located in the north Atlantic as forecasters warned of dangerous seas, strong winds and heavy rain. Humberto was located about 300 miles west of Bermuda. The Category 1 storm had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and was moving north-northwest at 18 mph, according to the National Hurricane Centre in Miami. Humberto was a Category 4 storm on Monday, but was quickly losing strength and was forecast to dissipate by Wednesday. Weeks announced at a news conference that the islandโs international airport would close on Wednesday, as would schools and government offices. He said residents should have all storm preparations completed by noon Wednesday. โImelda has the potential to damage and disrupt our island significantly,โ he said. Imelda was located about 735 miles west-southwest of Bermuda. It had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and was moving northeast at 7 mph. โThe system is likely to be rather potent while it passes near Bermuda,โ the National Hurricane Centre said.
