A 23-year-old unemployed man is now at Dodds Prison after confessing to seven counts of criminal deception in a Bridgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Jeheem Javan McDonald, of no fixed place of abode, stood in the dock of the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty that on October 5, 2024, he falsely obtained goods from several businesses by representing that he was in lawful possession of Visa and MasterCard debit cards in the name of Steven Bascombe and that he was authorised to use these cards.

The goods included petroleum products worth $200, $100, $200, and $80 from Sol Warrens; goods valued at $90.31 from Massy Warrens; goods from Chefette Warrens valued at $54.50; and goods valued at $78.05 from RJ Supplies in Fairchild Street, The City.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Reginald Blackman, told the court that Bascombe misplaced his wallet, which contained his bank and credit union cards, in October 2024 in Green Hill, St Michael.

He began receiving notifications that these were being used. He then contacted the financial institutions, which blocked the cards, and the police were called. Detectives found McDonald on surveillance cameras at various points making these transactions.

On Monday, the accused was seen at Sheraton Mall by a police officer and was arrested.

Magistrate Manila Renee remanded him to Dodds Prison until December 10, when she will sentence him.
