Clapham man remanded on robbery, deception charges

An Upper Fordes Road, Clapham man has been remanded to Dodds Prison after appearing in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on charges of two robberies totalling nearly $87 000 in property and a charge of criminal deception.

Akeel Shaquan Hamblin, 22, was brought before Magistrate Manila Renee, charged that on November 17, he robbed Elias Jackman of a motor car valued at $54 000, two mobile phones worth $1 600, $250 cash, a wallet valued at $60, and two bank cards worth $60 — a total value of $55 970. He is also accused of robbing Zaria Archer of a motor car valued at $30 000, a mobile phone worth $400, a $150 handbag, a $50 purse, a Barbados identification card valued at $60, and three ATM cards worth $150, with a total value of $30 810 on November 27.

Hamblin also faces a charge of dishonestly obtaining $190 from Archer’s chequing account by deception, allegedly using her CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank Visa debit card on November 28 without authority.
No pleas were taken on the indictable charges. Police Constable Troy Tudor objected to Hamblin’s release, citing the strength of the evidence, that a firearm had allegedly been used and that the accused could hinder investigations if granted bail as another suspect was still being sought.

Defence attorney Kristin Vanderpool argued that the charges did not specify firearm use, that his client had cooperated with police, was gainfully employed at a Christ Church restaurant, and that there was no evidence he would obstruct the inquiry. He also indicated that Hamblin had an alibi.

Magistrate Renee ruled in favour of the prosecution and remanded Hamblin until January 12, 2026.
