The Law Reform Commission is inviting members of the public, civil society groups and professional bodies to submit written proposals for the reform of Barbados’ laws.

Submissions must not exceed 1 500 words and should be submitted by Monday, February 16, 2026. While proposals will be made in writing, the Commission said this will not prevent follow-up oral discussions with authors once submissions have been reviewed.

Chairman of the Law Reform Commission, Sir David Simmons, urged Barbadians to take part in the process, saying public input is critical to ensuring that laws remain relevant and responsive to modern society. “Our laws should be capable of being recast in a form which is intelligible, accessible and in accordance with contemporary needs,” Sir David said.

“A key aspect of the law reform process is consultation. What the Law Reform Commission is doing is simply inviting the people of Barbados to become involved in the law reform process by giving the Commission the benefit of their experience, expertise and, indeed, their observations of the state of the law.”

Proposals may be submitted via email to lawreform@barbados.gov.bb, or delivered in hard copy to the Law Reform Commission at the Henry Forde and David Simmons Legal and Judicial Complex, Coleridge Street, Bridgetown.

The Commission operates under the Office of the Attorney General and is mandated under the Law Revision and Law Reform Act, 2019-6 to systematically review, modernise and simplify the law.
